Wetlands Preservation Bill Shows Astounding Potential

This just in, House Bill #1 was ranked first in committee: Sponsored by Caleb Barrett and Murphy McEnany “Coastal Wetlands Preservation” will increase the tax on crude oil withdrawn from Louisiana soil by approximately 3%. Since this is an increased tax and not a federal program no funding will be necessary and will instead be supported with money collected from general fees. Money earned will be used to fund Federal projects that will protect endangered land from being flooded, eroded, or otherwise destroyed by water. Commissioner of Agriculture, Thomas White expressed his support for the bill during a press briefing, stating it has ” lots of potential” for healing damaged land and moving Louisiana’s economy towards more alternatives instead of just oil. However, the tax raise may persuade residents to move elsewhere.
